How the community score is built
A community score in Cellar Curator only ever comes from a rating read off a Vivino or CellarTracker page we actually fetched. If we cannot fetch a page, the bottle gets no score. We never ask an AI what it thinks a wine scored.
Where the numbers come from
We search Vivino and CellarTracker for the exact wine and vintage. The page text is read and the published score extracted from it. Vivino's 5-star scale is converted to 100 by multiplying by 20; CellarTracker already publishes on 100.
We do not fetch Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator or Decanter, so we do not show their scores. We used to show critic scores for those publications; those numbers were recalled by an AI model rather than read off a fetched page, and we removed them in August 2026. Publishing that change, and this page, is the point.
The links shown next to a score are the page we actually read, not a search guess.
How the two are combined
When both sources are found, the score is a weighted mean on the 0–100 scale.
- A community source with 100 or more reviews counts double.
- A source we are less confident matched the right wine counts half.
- Confidence is high when two sources agree at medium or better, medium on a single solid match.
What we found
These figures are measured from our own 222-bottle cellar as of August 2026. They are not estimates, and they will shift as the data grows.
- Of bottles with a verified score, 54% have both sources and 46% have only one.
- Of the single-source bottles, 86% are Vivino-only — CellarTracker's coverage is thinner on everyday wines.
- Where both were found, the two communities disagree by a mean of 8.1 points, median 8.0, maximum 17.5. 93% of bottles differ by 5 points or more; 25% differ by 10 or more.
- Median Vivino review count is 558; median CellarTracker is 21. That is why the 100-review double weight favours Vivino in practice.
- A third of Vivino entries carry no review count at all, so they cannot qualify for the double weight even when the wine is popular.
The disagreement finding is the reason this page exists: a single score from a single site is less settled than it looks.
What we do not know
- 11% of bottles in our cellar have no community score, because no page could be matched. We show nothing rather than a guess.
- Ratings imported from a Vivino CSV keep their original score and have no source breakdown.
- Scores are refreshed weekly, so a number may lag the live page.
